As one of the globally-renowned LinkedIn, cover-letter and resume writing service providers, ResumeWW and our team of consultants sees resumes from a wide variety of candidates from different job prospects.
For this post, we will be focusing on the concerns of entry-level job seekers. Our resume consultants have compiled top-3 common questions they receive about entry-level resume writing – hoping that it helps you on your journey to land on great jobs! How do I make my resume look more extensive than it is? When you don't have a lot of professional experience, it can be tempting to try to fill in the gaps with filler knowledge. Over-explaining each bullet point is a common occurrence. However, you are not obligated to do so. In fact, recruiters and hiring managers prefer not to read long paragraphs, so limit your bulleted list to the most important and remarkable responsibilities. And, because most entry-level roles (by definition) require two years or less of experience, no recruiter will expect you to have a lengthy professional past. If you need to add some colour to your resume that your resume style doesn't allow, a cover letter may be the best way to do it. Your resume can only be filled up with time and experience. Concentrate on landing that first job, and the rest will fall into place. Should I include an objective or a summary? The fact with objective statements is that they aren't read at best, and at worst, they may get you kicked out of the running for a job. If your objective does not EXACTLY match the position you're looking for, your recruiter will screen it out. Finally, objective statements are superfluous because recruiters already know you're looking for work because you have an application. Can I include volunteer work on my resume? Absolutely. Volunteering, internships, and even courses that can indicate that you have the experience and/or skillsets to accomplish the job are generally encouraged for entry-level workers. Getting your first job out of college might be difficult at times, but perhaps the advice above will assist you as you begin your path. Need more insights on the same?
